television
last night i tried to cast a vote for American Idol, for the first time, because they were doing this charity fundraising thing based on how many votes they got. but i was rebuffed. i called about 30 times, but never got through. lame. they need more phones. or new technology.
my favorites are blake and jordin sparks. but i decided to support blake, 'cause i feel like he's more of an underdog.
oh well!
in other tv news, i've been watching this new show on showtime, The Tudors, which has taken the place of The L Word in so many ways. they are both poorly written, barely disguised porn. lesbian porn vs. historical, bodice-ripping porn. but i like lesbians and i like history, so i am forced to suffer through the racy parts. alas.

Hi sweetie.
Less TV-watching, and more getting your picture taken by a professional photographer (you wearing high heels and lingerie, of course).
Hugs & Kisses,

Instead of watching teevee:
Today I saw my first Eastern Towhee and first Yellow-rumped Warbler of the season. I also confirmed that the Brown Thrasher that's been hanging around for the past couple of days is, in fact, a pair. I hope that means babies before long. The little flock of Chipping Sparrows that arrived a few days ago is still around, as is the first Hermit Thrush of the spring. The Eastern Goldfinches are now brilliant.
There's been a three-way competition in my backyard among male Northern Cardinals, and the White-throated Sparrows are still here singing their "Oh-sweet-Canada" mating song. Maybe that means they'll be staying here for the summer, rather than going back to the Great White North.
My Pink-flowering Dogwood is budding out nicely, and my lilacs are producing big clusters of purple flowers. Soon I will be able to drift off to sleep with the scent of lilacs filling my room.
Finally, the tomato and bell pepper seedlings that I have under grow lights are thriving with a month to go before they're planted out.

Television. ptoo!
My problem is that once I've started to read a book, I can't put it aside until I've read it cover-to-cover, no matter how bad it is. It's a mental quirk. I've only failed to finish a book once in my life. The Greening of America. Worst book ever written.
So, here I am, bogged down in the middle of Go by John Clellon Holmes. Terrible book. It only holds historical interest for me because I'm somewhat interested in the Beats.
I've got a big stack of books I want to get to, but I've been dragging myself through this horrible Go for a few weeks. Yes, I said weeks.
The agony! I'd rather get a bikini wax while taking a bar exam! And I'm a man.
Why did I turn out this way?
Why, ilona? Why?
