zoophilia

i went to the bronx zoo for the first time today. i think that was my first time ever going to the bronx, period. one more borough - check!

my favorite thing was the baby gorillas in the congo gorilla forest. they were so cute. just like hairy little people. little human babies would bang their hands on the glass, and the baby gorilla would bang right back.

i was so happy that it was finally warm & sunny today. winter has been the hugest drag.

I think Andy Rooney just said English is the "best" language, but I was coughing, so I don't know whether or not I heard correctly.

That Chinese guy who said English was the best language never elaborated.

I keep hearing people say this, but I never find out why they say it.

Didn't you ever go to the gorilla area of the SF zoo? You should have.

Ilona: You're a linguist. Is Yiddish technically a dialect of German (though written with the hebrew alphabet)??

that would have been my instinct. although a quick visit to wikipedia suggests that it would more properly be considered a separate language in the germanic language family, rather than a dialect of (modern) german. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yiddish (last visited april 23, 2007).

parental unit #1: Why don't you take little ilona to the zoo this weekend?
parental unit #2: If they want her they can come and get her.

ilona walks into a bar with a baby gorilla. Bartender says, "Whoa, where did you get that?" Baby gorilla says, "Berkeley. There's thousands of them out there."
