ANTM writers' strike

it's been a tough week, emotionally. i've been trying figure out how i can reconcile my love for america's next top model and my respect and support for that show's writers' strike. (check it out - the reality tv writers have a whole campaign going - www.realityunited.com.)

but i've finally come up with an accomodation that i feel okay about: i'll continue to watch and love ANTM in private - which causes very little harm since i don't have a nielsen box or anything - but i'll refrain from discussing it publicly or encouraging other people to watch it. which is really hard, 'cause i like to write about whatever is on my mind, and ANTM occupies a big portion of my non-work thoughts these days. (omg, twins!! okay, sorry.)

please let me know if you hear anything about the strike being resolved, so i can go back to proclaiming my love for ANTM from the rooftops.

I didn't know they were on strike, and I was home for the last half so I watched. I didn't see the first eprisode but my opinion is that there does not need to be a strike for me to stop proclaiming my love for antm because the ugly girls have already ruined the show. Could there be anymore of them? What is this america's next top ugly model? yuck.

    "Honestly, who gives a fuck?"

well, obviously, the other three people who've commented here, for starters. (sorry, i guess i shouldn't say that it's obvious - maybe you're a little slow.)

not to mention my biggest fan: YOU. it's apparent that you care way more than most people - so thanks for writing!!!11

Wait.. I thought this was a reality show..

Why does a reality show need writers?

Are you saying the entire thing is scripted? And that all the girls are just acting and saying lines that were written for them?

I feel that the show exploits young womyn and intimidates them into striving to a beauty ideal which is unattainable. This is turn causes much painful dysfunction among girls in modern society. Ilona, i can't believe you as a proud bisexual progressive feminist and transgender advocate would support such anti-womyn programming.

har har har. in case you can't tell, dear readers, this last comment was clearly written by a straight dude who thinks feminism is a hilarious joke.

but i let this comment through because i do find the word "womyn" mildly amusing (although way too obvious - no one under 40 uses that word).

as to the concerns you mention - eh. i could come up with a snappy set of replies, but i'll save my breath 'til an actual feminist wants to debate this question with me.
